Freedom Call – Chris Bay

[SCROLL DOWN FOR THE ENGLISH VERSION]

– Ciao Chris! Bentornato su Heavyworlds.com. Come vanno le cose?

Hey Pinka, grazie.

(ndr: ho fatto un errore colossale, l’ultimo album è “The Land Of Crimson Dawn)
Oh si, sicuramente è completamente diverso da “Legend Of The Shadowking”, forse perchè hai saltato l’album di mezzo tra questo e “Beyond”.. quello chiamato  “Land Of The Crimson Dawn”. 🙂

Secondo me, è una canzone eccezionale.

Tornerete presto in Italia?

Il nostro tour ufficiale europeo “Light Over The Beyond” inizierà in Svizzera il primo marzo quest’anno.

2.  Pink Floyd – Wish you were here / perchè lo adoro

3.  Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Pictures of an exhibition / perchè non saprei dove ricomprarlo altrimenti

Saluti
Chris

– Hi guys! Welcome back on Heavyworlds.com. How are things going so far?

Hey Pinka, thanx! Life is doin great, hope you’re fine as well?
Next week we’ll escape from winter in Europe to play the 70000 tons cruise in the Caribbean Sea…good start for a new year 🙂

– Let’s talk about your upcoming album, “Beyond”. What’s the concept behind this album? And what’s the meaning of the cover art?

“Beyond” is an invitation to be part of a positive thinking, open minded and optimistic living world.
The cover artwork shows our “Beyond“in the background, to reach it, you just have to overcome yourself…you’re always welcome , every time and everywhere

– I took a first listening and I noticed your new work it’s different from your previous one ““Legend Of The Shadowking”, which wasn’t as positive as this one. Are there any differences you could tell us about between those two works?(ndr: I made a huge mistake, I got confused and ”skipped” Land Of The Crimson Dawn as their previous work)

Oh yes, of course  it’s definitively different to “Legend of the Shadowking”. Maybe the reason is, you missed the “bridge” to “Beyond”…that was an album called “Land of the Crimson Dawn”:)
We have two new members in the band, that could be a reason why the new album is more epic and probably a bit back into the early days of Freedom Call.
We could spent such a great time while touring , what we did a lot in the past years…that binds together and brings new inspiration.

– What about the choice of the cover art? Is there any meaning for it?

The cover artwork shows our “Beyond“in the background, to reach it, you just have to overcome yourself…you’re always welcome , every time and everywhere

– Your genre is different, I mean, it’s a sort of “happy metal” right? Why did you take this way as sound? Are there any particular reasons or is it because you guys are funny and happy people?

Music is art, art is an very emotional capture of senses. You can not choice your style of music like shopping in a supermarket…the music you are writing, performing and living out is made by passion and feeling. Our  characters contain a very positive attitude to life and we feel happy about our kind of living…that’s what we try to place to everyone.
The music is a mirror of our attitude.

– Could you tell us something about how the writing process works for you?

This time is was a very quick song writing process…after touring a lot in 2013, there was not so much time left. But the band built up a very strong and creative team, so we’re able to write the new album in less than a year.
It’s also the first time, that all members of Freedom Call are involved in the song writing.

– What’s your favourite track of the album and why?

At this time it’s the title track “Beyond”. In my opinion an outstanding song. There are several totally different parts of music merged into one, without missing the golden thread of the album “Beyond”.  Emotionally are combined lots of ups and downs which I acted our in this period of time.

– Which song was easiest to write and produce and which one the most difficult and why?

“Come on Home” was the quickest and “Beyond” was the most difficult song to write…When I came home from touring, I was sitting in my studio and began to strum with my guitar. With the feeling of being on tour, I just need to write the song “Come on Home” in less than 8 hours.
The song “Beyond” on the other hand, needed time and lot of work with harmonies and rhythm. Only for arranging I spent more than 3 weeks…

– You guys are known as happy people/ happy band. So I suppose something funny has obviously happened during the recording session of this album, right? Have you got any funny episodes to tell us?

Oh, we really spent a funny time together while recording the new album…but even that Freedom Call is a Happy Metal band…we’re working high concentrated in the studio, which is quite similar to work in a laboratory to create something…
The big happy metal parties and crazy moments are happening on tour 🙂

– What are your plans for the future? are you going to come back soon to Italy?

We’re almost ready to take off to Miami (USA) to enter the boat of “70000 tons of metal”. There we gonna rock in the Caribbean Sea for 5 dayz…:)
Our official European Tour “Light over the Beyond” starts in Switzerland on March 1, this year. In Italy we’ll play in Roma & Firenze…we’re already looking forward to come back to Italy!!

– Talking about Italy, you guys have been here so many times in different places. What do you like or dislike about our country?

Yeah, we love Italy. Great mentality and so enthusiastic people, fantastic!!  The shows will in end of April (25th Roma / 26th Firenze), so we have to pack in our short pants and swimming things…:)

-What are your music influences and also your musical backgrounds and studies?

I love all kinds of good music, I’m not limited…it just depends on whether it touches my heart or not…

– If you weren’t musicians, what were you supposed to be?

There existing millions of interesting professions…I just know, what I never wanna do…telling lies like politicians do !

– Imagine you had to run away from your house because of a fire. You could save 5 albums (considering the fact you have them all), what should they be and why?

Deep Purple – Machine Head / Cause it’s my first self bought metal album
Pink Floyed – Wish you were here / cause I’m loving it
Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Pictures of an exhibition / cause I don’t know where to get it again?
George Winston  – Summer / cause it’s a present of an personal important person
Freedom Call – Beyond / my evidence that I’m the singer of Freedom Call 🙂

– That’s all for now. Thanks for your time and we hope to see you soon in Italy. In the meanwhile, is there anything you would like to say to your fans and Heavyworlds.com readers?

I thank you for your effort and the interesting questions, was cool to answer!!

Yess, we can’t wait to come to Italy in April to introduce our new album “Beyond” live on stage! We’re already practising for the upcoming tour, so you can expect killer shows 🙂 I hope you ‘ll love the new album “Beyond” and in this case…have fun while listen to it!!
Salute
Chris
