Ho avuto modo di conoscere gli Smash Into Pieces durante la data italiana degli Amaranthe perchè erano una delle due band di supporto. Il simpatico frontman Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye ha trovato un po’ di tempo da rientro del tour europeo per rispondere a qualche nostra domanda.
– Ciao Chris, benvenuto su Heavyworlds.com, come vanno le cose?
Ciao Heavyworlds.com! 😉 Siamo nel bel mezzo della fase di pre-registrazione per il nuovo album, che verrà realizzato quest’estate quindi…siamo un po’ stressati! Haha! A parte lo stress, tutto va perfettamente bene! 😉
– Parliamo del tour europeo a cui avete partecipato con gli Amaranthe e i Deals Death. Prima di tutto, com’è stato condividere il palco con band così note?
Allora, questo è stato il nostro primo tour europeo e non sapevamo esattamente come sarebbero state le cose o come saremo stati trattati dagli altri come band di apertura. Dopo solo una settimana in tour, ogni membro delle tre band era come parte di un’unica grande famiglia. Tutto è andato così bene, nessun problema, siamo veramente contenti per questo. Ci manca già uscire con loro… 🙁
– Come siete riusciti a diventare band di supporto per il tour da headliner degli Amaranthe?
Dobbiamo dare un importante merito al nostro ingegnere del suono Andreas Vaple per questo. Si può dire quasi che lui abbia fatto tutto il lavoro per metterci insieme con gli Amaranthe. Ha iniziato a fare FOH per noi nel 2009 e con gli Amaranthe a inizio 2011, poi ha sognato di poter fare un tour con entrambe le band e finalmente quel sogno si è realizzato quest’anno – quindi questo tour è stato una grande cosa sia per lui, sia per lui che per noi ovviamente!
– Cosa pensi che il pubblicato abbia sentito ai vostri concerti? Io ero presente al vostro show in Italia, le persone erano veramente divertite e voi di certo avete lasciato il vostro segno in loro. Ho veramente apprezzato il concerto. 🙂
Grazie mille davvero! A mio parere, Milano è stato il concerto più divertente dell’intero tour! Non pensavamo che la risposta del pubblico sarebbe stata così enorme; le persone cantavano con noi durante le canzoni in ogni paese durante tutto il tour, il che è stata una gran sorpresa per noi! Surreale è la parola! Ho sempre voluto venire in Italia tra l’altro, assolutamente un beeeeeeellissimo paese! 🙂
– E’ stato il vostro primo tour europeo, vero? Quali posti vi sono piaciuti e quali no?
Si, esatto, non abbiamo disprezzato nessuna delle date del tour! Ci è piaciuto ogni concerto ed è la verità! Siamo veramente grati per il fatto che i fan degli Amaranthe ci abbiano accolto ogni notte esattamente così – pazzesco!!!
– E cosa ci dici riguardo al nostro paese? Da quanto ricordo, non siete andati a Milano, come hanno fatto alcuni ragazzi degli Amaranthe e Deals Death, ma siete stati nel locale, giusto? Ci siete mai andati prima? Cosa avreste voluto vedere / visitare quel giorno?
Non avevamo tempo per scoprire Milano tanto quanto volessimo, perchè siamo arrivati direttamente con il tour bus degli Smash Into Pieces per il soundcheck. Dopo il concerto, siamo dovuti partire subito per la Svizzera a causa del programma che dovevamo incastrare! 🙁
– Fare tour di solito è fatto di dormite sui bus e suonare ai live. Cosa avete fatto nel tempo libero?
Per le band di supporto, non c’è tempo per dormire e tempo libero, haha! 😉 Quando avevamo un’ora o due per fare qualcos’altro che non fosse soundcheck, dormire, guidare e mangiare, correvamo subito alla palestra più vicina che ci fosse! *Utz utz utz!* ;)…
– Avete fatto due day off giusto? Uno in Francia e uno in Regno Unito. Vi siete divertiti? Avete avuto modo di visitare questi due posti? (Mi pare fossero Calais in Francia e Londra in Regno Unito, giusto?)
Allora, abbiamo avuto 4 o 5 day off totali in un mese- questi giorni che avevamo dovevamo riposare e dormire il più possibile a causa della perdita di sonno.
– Ho visto che voi ragazzi avete stretto un’amicizia molto stretta con Elize, che è una persona fantastica. Com’è stato passare del tempo con lei? Le foto possono farci vedere che avete fatto un po’ di palestra insieme, siete andati da starbucks e tanto altro!
Elize è la migliore! E’ tosta anche!! Immagina di essere l’unica ragazza in tour per un mese intero con SOLI ragazzi… cacchio! Ero probabilmente l’unico a passare la maggior parte del tempo con lei nella nostra band- l’avevo già incontrata prima perchè sono lo stand- in ufficiale di Jake quindi ho già fatto un paio di concerti con loro! 🙂
– E cosa mi dici dei Deals Death, hai avuto modo di passare anche del tempo con loro?
Si haha, ci siamo frequentati tanto- ogni notte abbiamo condiviso lo stesso camerino! Ragazzi fantastici- TUTTI loro!
– Cosa porterà il futuro per gli Smash Into Pieces? Qualche idea?
Il futuro è brillante – inizieremo a registrare il nuovo album il 5 giugno quest’estate e se tutto va bene lo faremo uscire a novembre e il primo singolo uscirà a settembre seguito da un tour europeo /finnico! Organizzazione dall’inferno! 😉
– Quali sono le tue influenze musicali?
Abbiamo molte influenze simili ma la mia personale (e più grande influenza) sono Myles Kennedy, Alter Bridge, Creed, Savage Garden, Soilwork e Pantera!
– Avresti mai pensato di avere questo successo un giorno?
Per niente neanche in un milione di anni! Se i miei genitori e il resto della mia famiglia non mi avessero spinto a fare questo, non sarei stato in questa posizione, quindi vorrei tanto ringraziare loro! E’ grazie a loro se ho avuto questo successo! :)))
– Immagina che la tua casa sia in fiamme (persone e animali si salvano). Devi salvare 5 dischi, considerando di averli tutti. Quali sceglieresti e perchè?
– Alter Bridge- Blackbird, Pantera – Vulgar Display Of Power (quest’album ha iniziato la mia passione per la musica rock quand oavevo 13 anni) & Savage Garden- Savage Garden.. Non c’è bisogno di spiegare il perchè veramente – migliori album mai fatti! 😉
– E’ tutto per ora. Grazie del tuo tempo. c’è qualcosa che vorresti dire ai lettori di Heavyworlds o ai tuoi fan?
Non c’è di che – è stato molto divertente! Grazie mille davvero per il supporto! :))) La mia parola per i lettori di Heavyworlds: non sono il ragazzo che parla tanto ma vorrei dirvi che gli Smash Into Pieces sono la vera prova del fatto che quando si lavora duro e si vuole realizzare i propri sogni, questo succede solo grazie al lavoro duro! Quindi NON smettete di impegnarvi duramente per i vostri sogni. Li raggiungerete nel futuro prossimo. In ogni caso, stay tuned per il nuovo album! 😉

– Hello Chris, welcome on Heavyworlds.com, how are things going so far?
Hi Heavyworlds.com! 😉 We´re in the middle of our pre-recording session for the new album that´s gonna be recorded during this summer soooo.. We´re kinda stressed! Haha! Except the stress everything is perfectly fine! 😉
– Let’s talk about the european tour you have been to with Amaranthe and Deals Death. First of all, how was sharing the stage with such good bands?
Well, this was our first European tour and we didn’t know exactly how everything was going to be like Or how we was gonna be treated by the others as an “opener”. After only one week into the tour everyone of us in alla three bands was like a whole big fat family! Everything has been so good, no problems at all so we´re really happy for that! We´re already missing hanging out with them.. 🙁
– How did you get to be one of the support bands of the Amaranthe headliner tour?
We have to give a important shout out for our sound engineer Andreas Vaple on this one! You can almost say that he´s done the whole job by putting us together with Amaranthe. He started doing FOH for us back in 2009 and then he started working with Amaranthe in early 2011, he then began dreaming of doing a tour with both of his bands and finally that dream came true this year – so this tour was a big thing for him both him and us as well!
– What do you think the audience felt seeing you live? I was at the Italian show, people seemed to be very excited and you of course left your sign in them. I really loved your show. 🙂
Thank u so much!! In my opinion, Milano was the funniest show on the whole tour! We´ve never thought that the respons should be that massive, people were singing along in the songs in every country on the whole tour which was a really big surprise for us! Surreal is the word! I´ve always wanted to come to Italy also btw, absolutely beeeeeautifuul country! 😉
– It was your first european tour, right? Which places did you like and which you didn’t?
Yes it was, we didnt dislike any of the tour dates! We loved every show and that´s the truth! We´re so grateful for the fact that Amaranthe’s fans welcomed us every night the way they did – crazy!!!
– And what about our country? As I remember, you didn’t go to Milan, as the other guys from Amaranthe and Deals Death did, but stayed at the venue, right? Have you ever been there before? What would you have loved to see that day?
We didn’t have the time to discover Milan as much as we wanted cause we got to the venue with Smash Into Pieces tour bus directly for soundcheck. After the show we had to leave right away for Switzerland cause of the schedule we had to stick to! 🙁
– Touring is made of sleeping in the tourbuses and playing shows. What did you guys do in the spare time?
For the support act it isn’t any sleep and spare time, haha! 😉 When we had an hour or two to do something else than do soundcheck, sleep, drive and eat we ran to the nearest work-out place! *Utz utz utz!* ;)..
– You had two days off right? One in France and another one in UK. Did you enjoy them? Have you had time to visit these two places ( I suppose they were Calais in France and London in UK right?)
Well, we had 4 or 5 days-off total during one month – those days we had to rest and sleep as much as possible cause of the lack of sleep.
– I saw you guys making up a really close friendship with Elize, who is such an amazing person. How was spending time with her? Pics can tell us you guys did some gym together, went to Starbucks and so go on!
Elize is the best! She´s tough as well!! Imagine being the only girl on a full month tour with ONLY guys.. Jeeeeeezz! I was probably the one spending the most time with her in our band – i´ve meet her before cause i´m Jakes official stand-in so i´ve done a couple of shows with them already! 🙂
– And what about Deals Death, did you spend some time with them too?
Yeah haha, we hang out alot – every night we shared the same dressing room! Great guys – ALL of them!
– What would the future bring to Smash Into Pieces? Any plans?
The future is bright – we´re gonna start recording our new album June 5th this summer and HOPEFULLY we´re gonna release the record in November and the first single is gonna be out in September follow by a new European tour / Finnish tour! Schedule from hell! 😉
– What are your music influences?
We have alot of similar influences but my personal (biggest) influences are Myles Kennedy, Alter Bridge, Creed, Savage Garden, Soilwork & Pantera!
– Have you ever expected to have such this success one day?
Never in a million years!!! If my parents and the rest of my family hadn’t pushed me to do this i wouldnt be in this position so i really want to thank them A LOT! It´s cause of them i have this success! :)))
– Imagine your house is on fire (people and animals will get safe). You have to save 5 albums, considering you have all of them. Which one would you choose and why?
Alter Bridge – Blackbird, Pantera – Vulgar Display Of Power (this album started my liking for Rock music when i was 13 years old) & Savage Garden – Savage Garden.. Needs no explanation to “why” really – best albums ever made! 😉
