Today we’re thrilled to introduce “Tria Prima“, a rising Death Metal band from Ukraine blending old-school brutality with atmospheric Doom and Dungeon Synth elements. Formed in 2024 by members of renowned Ukrainian projects, the band has already made waves with their debut EP, “Three Primes of Alchemy“. With their unique alchemical themes and captivating sound, Tria Prima is carving a distinctive path in the metal scene. - Hello guys and welcome to Heavyworlds! I’m Stefania. It’s a pleasure to have you here! How are you all doing?
Hi, Stefania! It’s great to hear from you and chat with you too! Things are going quite well for us because we recently released our debut mini-album, “Three Primes of Alchemy”, which has been very well received by both the press and fans. We’re getting positive feedback from our audience every day, and it’s nothing short of amazing!
- As it’s your first time here on our webzine, could you introduce your band, Tria Prima, to our readers?
The band was formed in September 2024 in the city of Zhitomir, Ukraine, by members of various other renowned Ukrainian projects (ex-Drudkh, ex-Lucifugum, ex-Blood of Kingu, Lutomysl, Bestial Invasion, Cosmic Jaguar, and Violent Omen). Tria Prima’s style is characterized as Death Metal with elements of Doom and Dungeon Synth. The main concept and theme of the band revolve around alchemy in its different forms. In a short time, we recorded a four-song mini-album, “Three Primes of Alchemy“, and shot a music video for the song “Solar Sulfur“, featuring guest vocalist Anira. Currently, we are working on a new full-length album, which we plan to release in the second half of 2025.
- Your debut EP, “Three Primes of Alchemy”, was released on January 12th. How do you guys feel about it?
We think it’s pretty damn cool! We put a lot of time and effort into it, trying to create a product that showcases our abilities, and we believe we succeeded. Our whole team worked hard, and we’re very proud of the result. Now, we’re reaping the rewards of our efforts!
- Could you tell us more about the writing process for this EP?
It all came together very quickly, as almost all the band members have significant experience in the industry. Most of the music was brought in by me, and during rehearsals, we worked together to refine it. I would often bring material for a new song to each rehearsal, and we’d finish it the same day. I think the process went well because the material is both dynamic and atmospheric.
- Your lyrics delve into themes like alchemy and witchcraft. Where did this idea come from, and what inspires your writing?
We didn’t want to be just another boring and primitive band singing about corpses, zombies, death, or Satan. We wanted to create something unique, so I proposed the concept of alchemy. I’d already explored this theme in one of my other projects, Bestial Invasion, where we had a song called “Angel of the Western Window”. That sparked my interest in alchemy. Inspired by the book “Angel of the Western Window” by Gustav Meyrink and our album cover, which featured an alchemist, I became more intrigued by this topic. With Tria Prima, I finally had the opportunity to explore alchemy extensively.
- “Three Primes of Alchemy” perfectly blends death and doom metal with synth elements, which I personally find intriguing. How did you find your style as a band? Were you already rooted in these genres, or was this an experiment?
Initially, we planned to play pure old-school death metal, but then we decided to incorporate doom elements to create a more atmospheric and melancholic vibe. We’re big fans of 90s death/doom bands like Katatonia, Anathema, MDB, and Tiamat. That’s why, in the song Solar Sulfur, we introduced doom elements for added depth. On our upcoming album, these elements will play an even greater role as we continue refining our style.
- The artwork features clear alchemical references. What was the inspiration behind it?
The cover art was designed by Grace Ace Blood, a brilliant artist based in the USA who also collaborated with me on Cosmic Jaguar. Grace described the artwork as a fantasy adventure where our drummer, Yuriy, embarks on a quest, battling monsters and dragons, while the rest of the band plays a supporting role. The narrative involves alchemy, necromancy, and music as a means of overcoming challenges and fulfilling the band’s ultimate mission: to take their music worldwide.
- Speaking of alchemy and witchcraft, what are your personal beliefs about these themes?
We’re not fanatics, these themes simply provide an intriguing and mysterious foundation for our band’s concept. We don’t practice alchemy or witchcraft ourselves; we’re musicians who chose these topics to make our work more unique and engaging.
- Ukraine has unfortunately been at war for several years. How does this affect the band? Does the situation fuel your writing process?
For three years now, Ukraine has been enduring a brutal war, and the end is nowhere in sight. Every day could be our last, as our city is frequently attacked by Russian drones and missiles. This constant danger drives us to work hard and leave as much behind as possible. Words like anger and sadness don’t even begin to capture the situation.
- Are there any bands that have inspired your music?
We draw inspiration from many different genres because we’re versatile music lovers. However, our main influences are old-school death metal bands like Asphyx, Pestilence, Morbid Angel, Sadist, Dismember, and Grave. We’re also inspired by 90s death/doom and gothic/doom bands like MDB, Tiamat, Type O Negative, Katatonia, and Paradise Lost, as well as Dungeon Synth projects like Old Sorcery.
- What are Tria Prima’s future plans?
Our primary goal for 2025 is to release a full-length album in the second half of the year and maybe play a couple of shows. Most of the music is already written, and we hope to start recording this spring. Oh, and of course, we aim to charm and win all women’s hearts with our music—yours too, Stefania! 😊

Attualmente stiamo lavorando a un nuovo album full-length, che prevediamo di pubblicare nella seconda metà del 2025.
- Il vostro EP di debutto, “Three Primes of Alchemy“, è stato pubblicato il 12 gennaio. Come vi sentite a riguardo?
Pensiamo che sia davvero fantastico! Ci abbiamo dedicato molto tempo e impegno per creare un prodotto che mostrasse le nostre capacità, e crediamo di esserci riusciti. Tutto il nostro team ha lavorato duramente e siamo molto orgogliosi del risultato. Ora stiamo raccogliendo i frutti dei nostri sforzi!
- Potreste raccontarci di più sul processo di scrittura di questo EP?
È successo tutto molto rapidamente, poiché quasi tutti i membri della band hanno una grande esperienza nel settore. La maggior parte della musica è stata portata da me, e durante le prove abbiamo lavorato insieme per perfezionarla. Spesso portavo materiale per una nuova canzone a ogni prova, e la completavamo lo stesso giorno. Penso che il processo sia andato bene perché il materiale risulta sia dinamico che atmosferico.
- I vostri testi trattano temi come l’alchimia e la stregoneria. Da dove nasce questa idea e cosa ispira la vostra scrittura?
Non volevamo essere solo un’altra band noiosa e primitiva che parla di cadaveri, zombie, morte o Satana. Volevamo creare qualcosa di unico, quindi ho proposto il concetto di alchimia. Avevo già esplorato questo tema in uno dei miei altri progetti, Bestial Invasion, dove avevamo una canzone intitolata “Angel of the Western Window“. Questo ha acceso il mio interesse per l’alchimia. Ispirato dal libro “Angel of the Western Window“ di Gustav Meyrink e dalla copertina di un nostro album, che presentava un alchimista, sono diventato più intrigato da questo argomento. Con Tria Prima ho finalmente avuto l’opportunità di esplorare l’alchimia in modo approfondito.
- “Three Primes of Alchemy“ fonde perfettamente death e doom metal con elementi di synth, che personalmente trovo molto interessanti. Come avete trovato il vostro stile come band? Eravate già radicati in questi generi o è stato un esperimento?
Inizialmente, volevamo suonare puro old-school death metal, ma poi abbiamo deciso di incorporare elementi di doom per creare un’atmosfera più malinconica. Amiamo molto le band death/doom degli anni ’90 come Katatonia, Anathema, MDB e Tiamat. Ecco perché, nella canzone “Solar Sulfur”, abbiamo introdotto elementi doom per aggiungere profondità. Nel nostro prossimo album, questi elementi avranno un ruolo ancora più importante man mano che continueremo a perfezionare il nostro stile.
- Anche l’artwork presenta chiari riferimenti all’alchimia. Qual è stata l’ispirazione dietro di esso?
La copertina è stata progettata da Grace Ace Blood, una brillante artista con sede negli Stati Uniti che ha collaborato con me anche su Cosmic Jaguar. Grace ha descritto l’artwork come un’avventura fantasy in cui il nostro batterista, Yuriy, intraprende una missione, combattendo mostri e draghi, mentre il resto della band svolge un ruolo di supporto. La narrativa include alchimia, negromanzia e musica come mezzo per superare le sfide e realizzare la missione finale della band: portare la loro musica in tutto il mondo.
- A proposito di alchimia e stregoneria, quali sono le vostre convinzioni personali riguardo a questi temi?
Non siamo fanatici, questi temi forniscono semplicemente una base intrigante e misteriosa per il concept della nostra band. Non pratichiamo l’alchimia o la stregoneria; siamo musicisti che hanno scelto questi argomenti per rendere il nostro lavoro più unico e coinvolgente.
- L’Ucraina è purtroppo in guerra da diversi anni. Come affrontate questa situazione come band? Influisce sul vostro processo creativo?
Da tre anni l’Ucraina sta affrontando una guerra brutale, e non si vede una fine all’orizzonte. Ogni giorno potrebbe essere l’ultimo per noi, poiché la nostra città è frequentemente attaccata da droni e missili russi. Questo pericolo costante ci spinge a lavorare sodo e lasciare il più possibile dietro di noi. Parole come rabbia e tristezza non descrivono nemmeno lontanamente la situazione.
- Ci sono band che hanno ispirato la vostra musica?
Traiamo ispirazione da molti generi diversi perché siamo appassionati di musica molto versatili. Tuttavia, le nostre principali influenze sono le band old-school death metal come Asphyx, Pestilence, Morbid Angel, Sadist, Dismember e Grave. Siamo anche ispirati da band death/doom e gothic/doom degli anni ’90 come MDB, Tiamat, Type O Negative, Katatonia e Paradise Lost, oltre a progetti di Dungeon Synth come Old Sorcery.
- Quali sono i piani futuri per i Tria Prima?
Il nostro obiettivo principale per il 2025 è pubblicare un album full-length nella seconda metà dell’anno e forse fare un paio di concerti. La maggior parte della musica è già scritta, e speriamo di iniziare le registrazioni in primavera. Ah, e ovviamente, puntiamo a conquistare i cuori di tutte le donne con la nostra musica, anche il tuo, Stefania! 😊
