[ENG/ITA] FM – Brotherhood

[ENG] FM arrive at their fifteenth album with the solidity of those who have made consistency their trademark. The London band, veterans of British AOR, release through Frontiers Music, a Neapolitan label that has now become a global reference point for melodic rock. The opening track “Do You Mean It” immediately makes things clear: the vintage warmth of the Fender Rhodes interacts with rougher guitar riffs, while the backing vocals recall the Seventies but in an updated way. It’s an elegant start, far from cliché.

With “Living on the Run” the group’s typical features return: driving rhythm, supporting choirs, and a solo placed with skill. It’s FM’s ID card, solid and predictable. The same goes for “Coming for You”, “Raised on the Wrong Side” and “Love Comes to All”, songs that remain close to the takeoff runway without ever really lifting off: compact, well built, but more reassuring than surprising.

“Just Walk Away” lowers the lights and brings the album into romantic ballad territory, a classic Eighties arena moment. With “Don’t Call It Love” the formula repeats but in a more aggressive version: a ballad in a rock key, with distorted guitars coloring the atmosphere. “Time Waits for No One” seems to want to change pace, but actually stays close to the band’s usual language, faithful to a balance that does not take risks.

The final part introduces some different shades: “Because of You” stands out thanks to more present synths, which give the sound more space, while “Chasing Freedom” continues with tighter dynamics, without giving up recognizability. Finally, “The Enemy Within” closes with a more determined groove, heavier in impact, but still within FM’s identity.

In conclusion, “Brotherhood” does not change the band’s trajectory and does not seem to want to. It is an album of confirmations, built on solidity and craftsmanship, alternating romantic ballads and rock moments without ever losing coherence. Not a spectacular takeoff, but a safe journey: proof that, decades later, FM’s identity card remains valid and immediately recognizable.
