[ENG] Two years after the release of “Myths of Fate“, Leaves’ Eyes return with a new EP titled “Song Of Darkness”, Despite its short length, the four-track release confirms the band’s identity and their ability to craft epic atmospheres that sit somewhere between symphonic metal and the mythic imagery of the Nordic world.
The title track “Song Of Darkness” opens the EP with a strong narrative approach. Inspired by the medieval Icelandic saga of Gisli the Outlaw, the song moves through dark atmospheres and grand orchestral arrangements, maintaining the cinematic feeling that has long been a defining element of the band’s sound.
Across the EP, the four songs flow naturally and keep the listener engaged. “Hall Of The Brave,” “Until The Last Day” and “Roots Eternal” continue to showcase the band’s recognizable mix of metal riffs, orchestral layers, and evocative melodies.
As always, a big part of the band’s appeal comes from the vocal interplay. Finnish soprano Elina Siirala delivers a strong performance, guiding the songs with both power and emotional depth. Her clear and expressive voice carries the more epic passages while still shining in the softer moments. On the other side, the growls of Alexander Krull add weight and intensity, creating the vocal contrast that has become one of the band’s trademarks.
Even though it is a short release, “Song Of Darkness” works well and feels like the beginning of a new chapter. More than just a standalone EP, it acts as a bridge toward the band’s next full-length album, once again showing Leaves’ Eyes moving confidently between symphonic metal, epic atmosphere, and storytelling inspired by history and legend.
[ITA] Sono passati due anni dall’uscita di “Myths of Fate” e i Leaves’ Eyes tornano con un nuovo EP intitolato “Song Of Darkness”. Quattro brani che, pur nella loro durata contenuta, confermano l’identità della band e la loro capacità di costruire atmosfere epiche sospese tra symphonic metal e suggestioni legate alla mitologia nordica.
La title track “Song Of Darkness” apre il lavoro con un taglio decisamente narrativo. Ispirata alla saga islandese medievale di Gisli il Fuorilegge, la canzone si muove tra atmosfere cupe e orchestrazioni maestose, mantenendo quel gusto cinematografico che da sempre caratterizza il sound della band.
Nel corso dell’EP i quattro pezzi scorrono bene e senza momenti morti. “Hall Of The Brave”, “Until The Last Day” e “Roots Eternal” mantengono saldo il mix di riff metal, arrangiamenti orchestrali e melodie evocative che hanno reso riconoscibile lo stile del gruppo negli anni.
Come sempre, grande parte del fascino dei brani passa dalle voci. La prova della soprano finlandese Elina Siirala è convincente: la sua interpretazione è intensa ma sempre controllata, capace di guidare i momenti più epici come quelli più delicati. Dall’altra parte troviamo i growl di Alexander Krull, che aggiungono peso e profondità alle composizioni, creando il classico contrasto vocale che è ormai un marchio di fabbrica dei Leaves’ Eyes.
Pur trattandosi di un EP breve, “Song Of Darkness” funziona bene e lascia la sensazione di essere l’inizio di qualcosa di più grande. Un assaggio del prossimo capitolo discografico della band, che continua a muoversi con sicurezza tra metal sinfonico, atmosfere epiche e storytelling ispirato alla storia e alla leggenda.
