The Greek duo Rheinkaos, consisting of Dimitrios B. (guitars) and Savaoth (vocals), bring to life the disintegration of the self in their mini EP “All My Being is a Dark Verse”. Paired with stunning cover artwork by Vadim Karasov, this release takes listeners on a dark, evocative astral journey.
Clocking in at just 20 minutes, this work is a tightly balanced blend of avant-garde black metal and progressive metal.
The opening track, “Beta Religion”, begins with synths and electronic effects before a rich, saturated guitar riff leads into whispered vocals. Black metal sections are interwoven with slower, more pensive passages, all steeped in the anguish of Savaoth’s raw vocal delivery. The track’s undulating dynamics capture the sensation of an introspective journey, and its clean vocals at the conclusion provide a perfect, cathartic ending.
“The Commencement Fear” amplifies the contrasts: shifting from frenetic black metal assaults to psychedelic sections and gentler rhythms, punctuated by robotic vocals. This track is a cosmic journey through whirling progressions, where the self dissolves, fragmented into echoes that no longer feel human.
“All My Being is a Dark Verse” showcases some truly creative ideas, though it’s slightly held back by its production. Both the drums and vocals could have been mixed more effectively, lending greater depth to the former and more clarity to the latter.
Here’s hoping Rheinkaos return with new material soon. Their tracks deserve to be part of a more expansive and cohesive project. With the right refinements and a solid production team, this duo has the potential to stand out on a global scale, carving a unique niche in the vast sea of metal offerings.
[ITA] La musica è libertà. È la nostra via di fuga quando la vita sembra una serie infinita di abissi che si fagocitano a vicenda. È il balsamo che allevia il buio che corrompe il nostro animo.
Il duo greco Rheinkaos, composto da Dimitrios B. (chitarre) e Savaoth (voci), con questo mini EP “All My Being is a Dark Verse” (corredato da uno splendido artwork realizzato da Vadim Karasov), mette in scena il disfacimento dell’io attraverso un viaggio astrale oscuro e suggestivo.
Il lavoro ha una durata di appena 20 minuti, ma rappresenta un concentrato ben bilanciato di avant-garde black metal e progressive metal.
Synth ed effetti elettronici introducono “Beta Religion”, prima che un potente riff di chitarra saturato lasci spazio a una parte cantata con voce sussurrata. Momenti di black metal si alternano a passaggi più lenti, sempre permeati dalla sofferenza del cantato sporco di Savaoth, in un continuo saliscendi che trasmette perfettamente la sensazione di un viaggio interiore. Le clean vocals che chiudono il brano rappresentano un epilogo ideale.
In “The Commencement Fear” tutto appare ancora più marcato: si passa da furiose sfuriate black metal a sezioni psichedeliche o ritmi più pacati, arricchiti da voci robotiche. Il brano è un viaggio cosmico fatto di progressioni vorticose, dove l’io si dissolve, rarefatto in una miriade di echi ormai privi di umanità.
“All My Being is a Dark Verse” offre spunti creativi davvero interessanti, penalizzati però da una produzione non all’altezza. Sia la batteria sia la voce avrebbero beneficiato di un missaggio migliore, che avrebbe potuto dare maggiore corposità alla prima e una resa sonora più incisiva alla seconda.
Ci auguriamo che i Rheinkaos tornino presto a comporre nuovo materiale, perché i loro brani meriterebbero di essere inseriti in un progetto più organico e ambizioso. Con i giusti accorgimenti e una produzione adeguata, il duo potrebbe avere tutte le carte in regola per distinguersi a livello mondiale ed emergere con originalità dall’oceano sconfinato delle proposte metal.
