Abbiamo avuto occasione di intervistare la bionda frontwoman dei Adrenaline Rush, Tave Wanning, in occasione dell’uscita del loro omonimo disco. Ecco a voi la nostra chiacchierata!<\/i><\/p>\n

– Iniziamo con qualche domanda su di te e sul tuo nuovo progetto. Sei cos\u00ec giovane e talentuosa. Quando hai iniziato a cantare?
<\/b><\/p>\n
La mia carriera musicale \u00e8 iniziata quando avevo 7 anni. Sapevo ballare, perch\u00e8 avevo preso lezioni sin da quando avevo 2 anni, ma non avevo mai neanche pensato al canto. Ma poi mia mamma mi ha iscritta per un’audizione ad un progetto di cui era venuta a conoscenza, credo volesse vedermi come ballerina per la band. Ma ho finito con il cantare allo stesso modo, e questo \u00e8 quanto. Mi \u00e8 piaciuto!<\/p>\n
– Hai iniziato la tua carriera musicale all’et\u00e0 di otto anni in un duo dal nome “Peaches”. Come hai incontrato Isabelle Erkendal e come avete iniziato a suonare insieme?<\/b><\/p>\n
Ci siamo incontrate all’audizione e tutto \u00e8 cominciato da l\u00ec. Abbiamo registrato una canzone e pensavamo fosse inizio e fine della questione, ma poi una cosa tira l’altra e prima di accorgermene avevamo messo insieme due album, un gruppo di singoli, video, live in TV e molte date live in Svezia e Norvegia. Il nostro album ha raggiunto l’oro in Svezia e Norvegia, mentre platino per il singolo. Ho avuto un vero e proprio boom, ci siamo divertite e per me \u00e8 stata un’esperienza veramente positiva. E lo stesso pu\u00f2 essere detto per gli show live e la vita da zingare sulla strada. Mi ha dato uno start veramente precoce e tanta esperienza del tipo di lavoro da affrontare, cos\u00ec ho capito che era ci\u00f2 che volevo fare nella mia vita.<\/p>\n
– Quali sono le tue influenze principali?<\/b><\/p>\n
Sono cresciuta ascoltando il rock degli anni ’60, ’70 e ’80, in larga parte grazie ai miei genitori. Ovviamente ho anche sempre ascoltato la moderna musica dance, visto che sono una ballerina, ma il rock \u00e8 sempre stato nel mio cuore. E come ho detto prima, per me \u00e8 sempre stato importante dare al pubblico uno spettacolo buono sul palco – le canzoni, le mosse, gli abiti, il carisma. Per cui, i grandi frontmen del rock sono la mia pi\u00f9 grande ispirazione; persone come David Lee Roth, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, Michael Monroe. <\/p>\n
A casa probabilmente ascolto pi\u00f9 musica rock anni ’60 e ’70, che melodica come quella che suoniamo. Amo lo stile “hippie” del sound anni ’70 – Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, The Stones e cos\u00ec via, ma penso che la mia voce e l’atmosfera visiva si adattino meglio ai classici del party rock anni ’80.<\/p>\n
La mia band preferita in assoluto \u00e8 quella degli Hanoi Rocks. Sono un mix perfetto delle atmosfere zingare di Andy McCoys e quelle punk\/glam di Michael Monroe. Li ho visti live oltre 20 volte e trasmettono sempre. Forse non sono sempre perfetti tecnicamente, ma mettono sempre il 100% del cuore e duro lavoro. E sono anche persone simpatiche. Avevo solo 9 anni quando li ho visti per la prima volta e in quell’occasione il batterista mi ha individuata tra la folla e mi ha invitata nel backstage per incontrare la band. Ed \u00e8 cos\u00ec ogni volta da allora – hanno sempre tempo per i fan, a prescindere da quanto siano impegnati. E se me lo chiedi, \u00e8 quello che rende la band davvero grande.<\/p>\n
Per il resto, ascolto molto band come Judas Priest, AC\/CD, WASP, Femme Fatale, Lee Aaron e pi\u00f9 moderne come Airbourne e Rival Sons.<\/p>\n
– Hai recentemente rilasciato un nuovo album con un nuovo progetto, gli Adrenaline Rush. Quando siete nati come band e in che modo?<\/b><\/p>\n
E’ iniziato come un pensiero nella mia mente fra il 2011 e il 2012. Ho suonato in diverse band per molto tempo, ma nulla ha preso una piega seria. E’ difficile trovare un gruppo di persone con cui condividere un modo di vedere le cose e che vogliono procedere nella stessa tua direzione. Intendo dire, \u00e8 sempre piacevole e puoi ridere tanto, ma dopo un p\u00f2 vivere soltanto l’interno delle prove e le serate nei piccoli locali stanca. Sapevo di essere pronta per portare la mia musica ad un livello pi\u00f9 professionale ma non ero sicura di come intraprendere il percorso; in ogni caso, dovevo fare qualcosa.<\/p>\n
E cos\u00ec sono incappata per caso in Erik ad un concerto. Ho lavorato con lui per un po’, buttando gi\u00f9 linee vocali su una sua canzone un paio di anni fa, ma non lo conoscevo affatto. Abbiamo parlato e deciso di incontrarci per vedere se fosse possibile portare avanti un lavoro pi\u00f9 serio insieme.<\/p>\n
Erik \u00e8 un ragazzo incredibilmente talentuoso – \u00e8 un compositore, un musicista e un produttore. Non credo ci sia qualcosa nella musica che non sia in grado di fare bene. In pi\u00f9 \u00e8 una persona genuina e simpatica. Nel momento in cui \u00e8 venuto fuori che lui capisse completamente cosa cercavo musicalmente e in generale, tutto ha trovato il suo posto. Le idee hanno cominciato ad arrivare e dopo poco tempo avevamo in mano una serie di tracce che erano esattamente ci\u00f2 che volevo – buone melodie, grandi riff e canzoni energiche e adatte ai live, con una produzione moderna, ma anche con un piede negli anni ’80.<\/p>\n
Sapevo di voler suonare queste canzoni live, \u00e8 lo scopo principale, totalmente, anche nel lavoro. Per me si \u00e8 sempre trattato di salire su un palco, di incontrare il pubblico. Amo band come Hanoi Rock e Van Halen – band davvero salde che possono dare al frontman una base solida su cui poggiarsi e cos\u00ec possono focalizzarsi nel divertirsi e intrattenere la folla. Prover\u00f2 sempre ad essere la scimmietta da circo, per dare alla gente la sensazione che valga la pena spenderci dei soldi. Se volete vedermi concentrata sul canto, dovete comprare l’album. <\/p>\n
– Ho sentito dire che hai scelto accuratamente ogni membro della tua band, in modo tale che il loro stile si adattasse alla tua voce. E’ vero? Se si, cosa cercavi esattamente?<\/b><\/p>\n
Ho sempre visto me stessa come parte di una band, essere solista non \u00e8 poi cos\u00ec divertente. Cos\u00ec con l’album pronto, ho cominciato a cercare persone che potessero adattarsi visivamente e musicalmente. Potrebbe suonare come una storia gi\u00e0 sentita, ma non sono riuscita a trovare subito le persone adatte, per cui ho iniziato a cercarle online, leggendo annunci. Uno dei primi che ho trovato \u00e8 stato quello di Ludde e Marre che cercavano una cantante per il loro ultimo progetto. Conoscevo Ludde dai tempi della scuola e Marre per altre band a Stoccolma, per cui sapevo potevano essere adatti a ci\u00f2 che io avevo in mente. Volevano un ragazzo, ma ho detto “sticazzi” e li ho chiamati comunque. E cos\u00ec \u00e8 venuto fuori che apprezzavano le canzoni ed erano anche fan di Erick. Erano dentro.<\/p>\n
Avevamo bisogno di qualcuno al basso e Marre ha proposto un amico di vecchia data, Soffe, che conoscevo anche io grazie ad altre band. Hagge \u00e8 stato l’ultimo ad unirsi a noi. Non lo conoscevo, ma mi \u00e8 piaciuto sin da subito. Gli abbiamo fatto un’audizione solo per fare un p\u00f2 di casino con lui, ma per quanto mi riguardava era gi\u00e0 nella band. E insieme siamo gli Adrenaline Rush. Penso che il nome riassuma perfettamente il modo in cui suoniamo e quello che cerchiamo di fare durante i live. Questi ragazzi sono fantastici e sono cos\u00ec contenta di averli con me.<\/p>\n
– Ho ascoltato e recensito il vostro album di debutto “Adrenaline Rush”. Sembra che voi abbiate scelto il nome perfetto. Una pura scarica di adrenalina. E’ un concept album?<\/b><\/p>\n
Grazie. Si, credo sia un buon nome. E se vuoi, credo che si possa definire un concept album nel tentare di riportare sorrisi nella musica, tornare al divertimento e alla scarica di adrenalina. Esattamente come negli anni ’80. Qualcosa \u00e8 successo negli anni ’90 e tutti hanno cominciato a scurirsi e per qualche ragione il rock \u00e8 diventato brutto e arrabbiato, e io non ci sono dentro per niente. Mi piace ci\u00f2 che \u00e8 felice, i sorrisi, le feste e il divertimento. Qualcuno disse “Why so serious” e sono d’accordo. Perch\u00e8 essere troppo seri, divertiamoci e apprezziamo la scarica di adrenalina dell’essere vivi e felici invece!<\/p>\n
– Quale canzone pu\u00f2 essere considerata la pi\u00f9 rappresentativa degli Adrenaline Rush? E qual \u00e8 la tua preferita?<\/b><\/p>\n
Questa \u00e8 una domanda difficile, perch\u00e8 mi piacciono tutte. La mia preferita cambia di giorno in giorno, a seconda dell’umore. Quando mi sento bene sicuramente sar\u00e0 una delle pi\u00f9 ritmate, come “Girls Gone Wild”, altri giorni apprezzer\u00f2 di pi\u00f9 “When We’re Gone”.

– Ascoltando il tuo album, sono rimasta colpita dalla canzone “When We’re Gone”, cos\u00ec toccante. Qual \u00e8 il suo significato? <\/b><\/p>\n
E’ carina, non \u00e8 vero? Mi piace tanto. Abbiamo fatto anche una speciale versione acustica remix per la versione giapponese dell’album, che \u00e8 davvero buona. Il testo \u00e8 basato sul vivere la vita ogni momento, senza cancellare nulla e senza perdere tempo, perch\u00e8 non sai mai quando sar\u00e0 troppo tardi e tutto finito.
<\/p>\n
– Puoi dirci qualcosa su come funziona il vostro processo creativo?<\/b><\/p>\n
Non sono esattamente una compositrice, almeno, non ancora. Ci provo, ma ci sono tanti bravi compositori la fuori che svolgono il loro lavoro meglio di me. Perci\u00f2, da questo punto di vista dipendo dagli altri. Sono stata davvero fortunata stavolta a lavorare con Erik, che ha capito davvero cosa stavo cercando; abbiamo tirato fuori le idee e le abbiamo portate in studio, Erik mi ha mostrato le demo e le eventuali tracce per l’album ed \u00e8 cos\u00ec che \u00e8 nato il disco. Il mio contributo pi\u00f9 grande \u00e8 stato nel definire il sound e la direzione generale, sapevo quel che volevo e quel che mi piace, e inoltre le linee vocali.<\/p>\n
– State programmando un tour? C’\u00e8 qualche posto in cui vi piacerebbe suonare?<\/b><\/p>\n
Fare un tour sarebbe bellissimo, \u00e8 il motivo principale per cui sono in questo business. Se potessi, suonerei ovunque in qualsiasi momento. Basta una telefonata e io sono l\u00ec! Ma al contempo c’\u00e8 un aspetto economico, siamo una band nuova ed \u00e8 difficile trovare ingaggi che paghino abbastanza da sbarcare il lunario. Vedremo quel che succede. Sicuramente vogliamo suonare, dobbiamo soltanto trovare ingaggi che possiamo permetterci. <\/p>\n
– Sei mai stata in Italia? Se si, quale posto ti piace di pi\u00f9? Se no, quale vorresti visitare?<\/b><\/p>\n
Si, sono stata in vacanza ad Olivietta, nel nord Italia, un paio d’anni fa. E’ stato bellissimo, davvero caldo, buon cibo e persone simpatiche. Ho anche visitato Milano ad inizio anno, per il Frontiers Rock Festival, ma sfortunatamente \u00e8 stata una visita breve. Mi piacerebbe tornare in veste da turista.<\/p>\n
– Se dovessi scegliere solo cinque dei tuoi album preferiti, quali sarebbero?
<\/b><\/p>\n
Questa \u00e8 difficile, c’\u00e8 tanta buona musica li fuori. E ad essere sincera, sono pi\u00f9 concentrata sulle singole tracce che sugli album, cos\u00ec come molte persone di questi tempi. Adoro le mie playlist di Spotify! Ma se proprio dovessi scegliere, direi<\/p>\n

– Let’s start with a few questions about you and your new project. You’re so young and talented. When did you start singing?<\/b><\/p>\n
My career in music actually started when I was 7 years old. I knew how to dance because I had been taking classes since I was 2, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019d ever even thought about singing. But then my mom signed me up to audition for a project she came across, I think she envisioned me as a dancer for the band. But I ended up singing as well, and that was it. I loved it!<\/p>\n
– You started your music career at the age of eight in a duo called Peaches. How did you and Isabelle Erkendal meet and start playing together?<\/b><\/p>\n
We met at the audition and just got along right from the start. We recorded a song and we thought that that was pretty much the end of it, but one thing led to another and before I knew it we had put out 2 albums, a bunch of singles, videos, did live TV and toured all over Sweden and Norway. Our album sold gold in Sweden and Norway and the single went platinum. I had a total blast, we had so much fun and it was a very positive experience for me. And even back then I was all about the live shows and the gypsy way of life on the road. It gave me an early start and lots of experience of the business and I knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life.<\/p>\n
– What are your main influences?<\/b><\/p>\n
I grew up listening to rock from the 60\u2019s, 70\u2019s and 80\u2019s mostly thanks to my parents. I\u2019ve obviously always listened to modern dance music since I\u2019m a dancer, but rock has always been where my heart is. And like I said before, giving the audience a good stage show has always been important to me – the songs, the moves, the clothes, the charisma. So the great front men of rock inspire me the most; people like David Lee Roth, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, Michael Monroe.<\/p>\n
At home I probably listen more to 60\u2019s and 70\u2019s rock than the melodic stuff we play. I love the \u201chippie\u201d 70\u2019s sound \u2013 Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, The Stones and so on, but I think my voice and visual vibe fits better with the classic 80\u2019s party rock.<\/p>\n
My all-time favorite band is Hanoi Rocks. They are a perfect mix of Andy McCoys gypsy vibe and Michael Monroes punk\/glam influence. I\u2019ve seen them more than 20 times live and they always deliver. Maybe not always technically perfect, but always 100% heart and hard work. And they\u2019re nice people, too. I was only 9 years old the first time I saw them and their drummer at the time spotted me in the crowd and invited me backstage to meet the band. And it\u2019s been that way ever since – they always make time for their fans no matter how busy they are. And if you ask me, that\u2019s what makes a band great. <\/p>\n
Other than that, I listen a lot to bands like Judas Priest, AC\/DC, WASP, Femme Fatale, Lee Aaron and also modern stuff like Airbourne and Rival Sons.<\/p>\n
– You recently released a new album with your new project, Adrenaline Rush. When were you born as a band and how?
<\/b><\/p>\n
It actually started as a thought in the back of my mind in 2011 or 2012. I had been playing in different bands for a long time but nothing ever took off in a serious way. It\u2019s hard to find a group of people who share a vision and want things to go in the same direction. I mean, you always have a good time and lots of laughs but after a while just seeing the inside of a rehearsal studio and doing small club gigs gets old. I knew I was ready to take my music to a more professional level but wasn\u2019t sure how to go about it, but I knew I had to do something.<\/p>\n
And then just by chance I ran into Erik at a concert. I had worked with him briefly laying down vocals on a song of his a couple of years back but I didn\u2019t really know him at all. We got to talking and decided to meet up and see if we could do some serious work together.<\/p>\n
Erik is an incredibly talented guy – he\u2019s a songwriter, a musician and a producer. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything in music he can\u2019t do well. Plus he\u2019s a genuinely nice person. And as it turned out he totally understood what I was looking for musically and everything fell into place. Ideas just kept coming and after a short while we had a bunch of tracks that were exactly the way I wanted \u2013 good melodies, great riffs and very energetic and live oriented songs with a modern production but still with one foot in the 80\u2019s.<\/p>\n
I knew I wanted to play the songs live, it\u2019s the main reason I\u2019m even in the business at all. It\u2019s always been about the show and performance for me, the connection with the audience. I love bands like Hanoi Rocks and Van Halen \u2013 really tight bands that can give a crazy front man a solid foundation to stand on so they can focus on getting the party going and entertaining the crowd. I will always try to be the circus monkey and give the people their money\u2019s worth. If you want to hear me focus on singing you have to get the album.<\/p>\n
– I heard rumors about you choosing carefully each band member in order to fit their style to your voice. Is that true? If so, what were you looking for exactly?
<\/b><\/p>\n
I\u2019ve always seen myself as part of a band, being solo just isn\u2019t that much fun. So when the album was ready I started looking for people that would fit both visually and musically. It might sound like a made-up story, but I couldn\u2019t find the right guys at first so I actually went online and read classifieds. And one of the first ads I found was Ludde and Marre looking for a lead singer for their latest project. I knew Ludde from school and Marre from other bands around Stockholm, so I knew they were right for what I had in mind. They wanted a guy but I said \u201cscrew that\u201d and called them up anyway. And as it turned out they liked the songs and were also fans of Erik, so we they were in.<\/p>\n
We needed someone on bass and Marre suggested his long-time friend Soffe, who I also knew from other bands. Hagge was the last one to join. I didn\u2019t know him but liked him right away. We made him audition but it was just to mess with him, as far as I was concerned he was already in the band. And together we\u2019re Adrenaline Rush. I think the name really sums up how we sound and what we\u2019re trying to do live. The guys are really great and I\u2019m so happy to have them with me. <\/p>\n
– I listened and reviewed your debut album “Adrenaline Rush”. It feels like you chose the perfect name for it. A pure Rock’n’Roll rush. Is that a concept album?<\/b><\/p>\n
Thanks. Yes, I think it is a good name. And I guess you can call it a concept album in that what I really want is to try and put some smiles back into music, bring back the party and the adrenaline rush if you will. Just like in the 80\u2019s. Something happened in the 90\u2019s and everyone started to frown and for some reason rock got angry and ugly, and I\u2019m not into that at all. I like happy, I like smiles and I like party and having fun. Someone said \u201cWhy so serious\u201d and I agree; What\u2019s the point of being too serious, let\u2019s have some fun and enjoy the adrenaline rush of being alive and happy instead!<\/p>\n
– Which song can be considered the most representative of Adrenaline Rush? And which your favorite one?<\/b><\/p>\n
That\u2019s a hard question, because I like all of the tracks. Which is my favourite varies from day to day, depending on the mood I\u2019m in. When I\u2019m feeling good I\u2019ll really like one of the up-tempo ones like Girls Gone Wild and other days I\u2019ll like When We\u2019re Gone. <\/p>\n
– Listening to your album, I was so impressed by the song ”When We’re Gone”, it’s so touching. What is the meaning of this song?<\/b><\/p>\n
It\u2019s nice, isn\u2019t it? I like it a lot. We also did a special acoustic remix for the Japanese issue of the album that is really good. The lyrics talk about living life in the moment, don\u2019t put things off and don\u2019t waste time because you never know when it\u2019ll be all over and too late.<\/p>\n
– Could you tell us something about how the writing process works for you?<\/b><\/p>\n
I\u2019m not much of a song-writer, at least not yet. I try, but there are so many good songwriters out there that do it so much better than me. So I depend on others in that area. I was really lucky this time around to work with Erik who really understood what I was looking for, we would throw ideas back and forth in the studio and he would play me demos and eventually the tracks for the album were born. My biggest contribution to the songs is the general direction and sound, I know what I want and like, and also the vocal melodies. <\/p>\n
– Are you planning some tour? Is there any place where you would like to play?<\/b><\/p>\n
We would love to tour, it\u2019s why I\u2019m in this business in the first place. If I could I would play anywhere, anytime. Just give me a call and I\u2019m there! But at the same time there is a financial aspect, we are a new band and it is hard to find gigs that pay enough to make ends meet. So we\u2019ll see what happens. We definitely want to get out and play, we just have to find the gigs we can afford to take. <\/p>\n
– Have you ever been in Italy? If yes, which place do you like the most? If not, which one would you like to visit?<\/b><\/p>\n
Yes, I went on holiday in Olivietta in Northern Italy a couple of years ago. It was beautiful, very hot and good food and nice people. And I also visited Milano earlier this year for the Frontiers Rock Festival, but unfortunately it was a short visit. I would like to go back and do the tourist thing. <\/p>\n
– If you should pick just five of your favorite albums, which would they be?<\/b><\/p>\n
That is so hard to answer, there is so much good music out there. And to be honest I am more focused on tracks rather than albums, I think most people are these days. I love my Spotify playlists! But to take a few just off the top of my head I would say<\/p>\n
