Ciao da New York City.

E qualche anno fa ho iniziato a imparare l’armonica.

– Sei stata in una tribute band. Com’è stata questa esperienza? Credi ti abbia aiutato a migliorare in musica?

– Cosa ci dici del nome “Billy The Kid”?

E così è diventato “Billy The Kid”.

Ryan Adams, The Hold Steady, The Band e Billy Bragg sono alcune delle mie influenze.

Direi tutte.

Grazie.

[ENGLISH VERSION]
– Hello there Billy and welcome on Heavyworlds.com! We’re glad to have you here. How are you? I started piano when I was 8. There were some guitars donated to my school when I was 12. At 15 I got drums. A few years ago I started learning harmonica.

The main tribute band was just a Ramones cover band I played drums in. It was more for fun than anything. I guess it helped in that it gave me a place to go and something to do to keep out of trouble.

It’s just a nickname my band used to call me. I was the youngest so they called me Kid or the Kid. That eventually turned in to Billy the Kid.

I grew up in the 90s listening to Nirvana, Babes in Toyland and Hole. Ryan Adams, the Hold Steady, the Band and Billy Bragg are some influences. I think the songs have an element of luck and destruction attached to them. They seem to be similar in that they are all grasping or reaching for something even though they were written at different times.

It’s a saying that goes “close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.” I liked the imagery as well as the idea that you really have to go for something if you want it to count.

It’s always a bit of a roller coaster doing things on your own as a punk rocker/folk singer. I never expected what I was doing to “pay the bills” so I took a step back last year. That resulted in me being very grateful for anything that comes up. At this point it really all is a bonus to me. I’m just happy to be here. That said last year was pretty crummy.

I would say all of them. They’re all a big part of me. I have a few different sides which is why I don’t like making records that sound all the same. We all have many different facets. I believe those should all be represented.

In all honesty I did quit a number of times but the fact that it was always there for me is why I can never really stop. It’s one thing to try and make it your job. That’s kind of silly if you ask me. It’s just music. It’s supposed to be fun. Putting pressure on it to try and support you can become frustrating. The fact I always went back to it made me sure it was still the most important thing to me. I always loved it. Sometimes it just doesn’t love me back the same.

Thank you

www.billythekidonline.com

["post-25212","interviews","type-interviews","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
