– Raccontateci come siete approdati alla Wind-Up Records e come avete incontrato The Machine (il produttore, ndF)?

Paul adora Deftones, Soundgarden e Grand Funk Railroad. Jake sente tantissimo Randy Newman, Betty Davis e Queens of the Stone Age.

Oltre alle bands già menzionate, ci piacerebbe suonare con Graveyard, Queens of the Stone Age e Soundgarden .

Mischiate tutti questi elementi e merda! Uno strip-club a tema fantascientifico dove servono cibo esplosivo? Ne conosci qualcuno?

– In effetti no, ma sarebbe bello!

[ENGLISH VERSION]

– Welcome on Heavyworlds.com ! “Something Supernatural” is almost out, how do you feel about having a new album to promote?

It feels really good to be on the cusp of finally releasing the entire eleven songs of our amazing experience with Machine in “Something Supernatural.” We cannot wait to bring it to Europe!

– Your new release is full of energy, groovy and captivating. How does your creative process work?

We just get in a room and jam. Bishop will bring some riff ideas that he’s been working on and we’ll structure them out and we’ll just riff off of each other. Twist and turn the riffs on their heads and back again. I’ll just improvise some melodies and words overtop of the parts and we’ll jam them individually until we are happy with moving on building the structure continuously. The songs really just happen.

– Can you tell us how do you feel being part of Wind\u001fup Records and how did you decide to work with The Machine (the producer)?

We’ve had such an incredible experience working with Windup and they really do treat us like we’re family. We really got the chance to get to know them before we inked the deal with them and that certainly aids in the process of nullifying all of the horror stories we have heard about record labels. In turn that has led us to working with Nuclear Blast for our international distribution as well, which we are honored to be included among that roster of great bands.

The way we met Machine is really synchronicity at its finest. We played a gig at Austin, Texas’s SXSW which Machine attended by accident. He was suppose to be there to check out another band and thankfully for us his phone led him there an hour early, right before our set. He saw us perform and approached us afterwards and we talked about working together. We pretty much hung out all week at SXSW with him and when it came time to hit the studio we got in touch and made it happen.

Working with Machine has led us to another door of evolution for our sound and groove. He really had a way of capturing what we are all about. He studied our songs underneath his sonic microscope and really breathed in deep the Crobot essence. We haven’t sacrificed our sound and what we believe in to make this record, exactly the opposite actually.

– Crobot are immediately recognizable by your look, the cover art was created by Chris Bishop: what are your inspirations? Is there a visual message, beyond music, you would like to share with your fans?

“For all the album art I drew a lot of inspiration from Alphonse Mucha’s work from the late 1800’s and also some modern artists like John Baizley. Brandons lyrics were very visual to me so it was a lot of fun to put the imagery to it. “ – From Bishop

– “Something Supernatural” is really smooth, every song could be a single: we have to take Crobot as an unicum, “all or nothing”?

We went into the recording process with 25 songs and it was definitely hard trying to figure out what songs to cut, since we had to narrow it down to 15 tracks. With that said though, we feel the eleven tracks we picked spell out the entire Crobot spectrum for the listeners. From the in your face track “The Necromancer” to the funky “Chupacabra” all the way to the slow, riffer “Queen of the Light,” we managed to capture the whole essence of what we are as a band.

– How are your influences different and how do they become part of your sound?

Our influences orbit the same rock titans that most bands pull influence from like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but we individually venture off into our own worlds of influence. I’m a huge Dio fan, especially the Rainbow stuff and I love some Funkadelic, Prince, & James Brown. Bishop is really into the southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Cry of Love, all the way to Sammy Hagar to Clutch to Mother’s Finest. Paul’s really into the Deftones, Soundgarden, and Grand Funk Railroad. Jake listens to a lot of Randy Newman, Betty Davis, and Queens of the Stone Age.

I think we all grab pull from our individual influences and give our own spin on the genre. Whenever we get into a room and jam we pull from all of those influences.

– You have played a lot in USA, now Europe’s waiting for Crobot: what do you expect from upcoming tour?

Just recently we played our first international shows in the UK with our Wind-up label brothers The Virginmarys and it was a great experience for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the European audiences and their passion and love for music. Now we’re partnering up with Nuclear Blast Europe to get the album out across the pond and that should mean more tours over there as we. We have our fingers and toes crossed!

– Crobot has recently shared the stage with bands like Kyng, Clutch, Kill Devil Hill. What did you learn from those bands? Are there some other bands you would like to play with and why?

Fortunately, we’ve really gotten lucky to have toured with some really cool bands and not just in the sense of their music, but personally as well. Touring with Clutch and the Sword was definitely a highlight for us and we learned a lot from that tour. Clutch fans are the best fans and they came out early to check out our set and it was really cool to see what hard work, dedication, and loyalty to your fans can lead to.

It’s also a really cool thing to meet some of your favorite artists like the dudes from Kyng, Kill Devil Hill, and Truckfighters to name a few. We’ve been privileged to have some pretty awesome tours thus far and we’re looking to have a few more in the works!

Some bands we’d love to tour with other than those already mentioned are Graveyard, Queens of the Stone Age, and Soundgarden to name a few. We love the sound of Graveyard especially live and to tour with those dudes would be a pretty stellar experience. It’s our dream to land a tour of the Queens of the Stone Age or Soundgarden magnitude, but all size aside, it would still be an amazing occurrence to see our name on the marquee along with those names.

– There’s a great sense of humor in your album, who are Crobot off stage?

We’re just a bunch of dudes who love playing riff rock music and drinking and smoking weed. Other than that we love sci-fi, good food, titties, and hot sauce. Combine all of those and holy shit! A space themed strip club that serves bangin’ food? You know of one?

– We’re arrived at the end of the interview, I would like to thank you a lot and I really hope to see Crobot in Italy as soon as possible.
