How does it felt to explore such an intimate and really private moment of your life in such a song?

Well, it was very, very challenging in the sense that, first of all, the song itself is different. It’s a different structure. We kept it for the last to record drums and I don’t remember if we recorded vocals last. At least when we created the structure and when Morten went into the studio to record drums, we kept this one for last. First of all, because we changed to an old drum kit, like a vintage drum kit to change the sound of it. And also we were still discussing a bit the structure because it was inspired by the kind of Fleetwood Mac style of music. And we had to get it right because it’s very stripped down. It’s very naked so every little hit matters. Every little vocal thing, like everything, you can hear it. So we really had to be careful with crafting this and then the whole thing about singing in French, which was more difficult. I think the meaning of the lyrics was at that time easier because, I mean, it’s still a very powerful moment in my life to leave home and so on. At that time, it was probably easier to deal with the lyrics and to open up with this than creating the music. Now, in retrospect, my dad passed away in the meantime. And this song has a whole new meaning to me now and I think it would be very difficult to record it today.

So was it recorded before? Because when I listened to the song, I also heard the French part, which I knew you are from the French Switzerland part. And I thought it was linked to your childhood, the memories with your father so I don’t want to ask you directly the question, but I thought it was written for him.

It was recorded before but instead, it has a new meaning now. I mean, it was written for both my parents. But at that time, I thought that both of them would hear it.

And “Snow on Mars” seems to explore the desire to escape, to rise above chaos and to find a perspective in another world. What emotion or thoughts inspired these songs?

Oh, sarebbe rosso, nero e bianco.
