[ENG] They appear masked, shrouded in an aura of mystery and esoteric allure. Voidfallen is a relatively new Finnish band, founded in 2019 as a duo project by guitarists Tommi Kangaskortet and Henri Vuorenmaa. “The Rituals of Resilience” is their second album, released on February 21, 2025, via Noble Demon, following their 2021 debut “The Atlas of Spiritual Apocalypse“.
The band masterfully blends melody with furious death metal outbursts, enveloping their sound in a suffocating, sulfurous atmosphere. They showcase both their musicianship and compositional maturity, crafting songs that exude a dark solemnity. Tracks like the opener “Threads of Blood” and “Starved of Martyrs” leave an immediate mark, striking with their intensity. The band impresses with technical precision and sheer aggression, “Tread With the Ghosts” features breathtakingly intricate drumming, without ever neglecting the melodic component.
The guitars are powerful and tightly woven with the rhythm section, while the vocals sit perfectly in the mix, enhancing the album’s stylistic cohesion. In the title track, the band reaches the peak of its solemnity, with an ethereal atmosphere and swirling guitar arrangements creating an immersive and evocative piece. There are also relatively more melodic moments, such as “Pyre of Vengeance“, where the vocals remain deep and the keyboard elements blend seamlessly, never overpowering the composition, and the closing track “The Mourning Shores“, which even features some clean vocals.
It is this final track in particular that truly highlights the band’s undeniable talent and offers intriguing glimpses into their evolving sound, could this be the next step in Voidfallen’s sonic journey? “The Rituals of Resilience” is an album from a band with a distinct personality, impeccably performed and arranged, where melodic death metal, leaning toward its darker variations, is enriched by elements of symphonic black metal.
I sincerely hope Voidfallen receive the recognition they deserve, this is an exceptional band.
[ITA] Si presentano mascherati ed avvolti da un’aura di mistero e dal fascino esoterico. I Voidfallen sono una band finlandese relativamente nuova, fondata nel 2019 come progetto duo, in origine composto dai chitarristi Tommi Kangaskortet e Henri Vuorenmaa. “The Rituals of Resilience” è il secondo album uscito il 21 febbraio 2025 via Noble Demon, dopo l’esordio del 2021 dal titolo “The Atlas of Spiritual Apocalypse”.
La band fonde sapientemente melodia e sfuriate death metal dentro atmosfere sulfuree e soffocanti, sfoggiando tutte le proprie qualità di musicisti ed esecutori e dando prova di una grande maturità compositiva. Le composizioni sono pervase tutte da un senso di oscura solennità, brani come l’opener “Threads of Blood“ e “Starved of Martyrs” lasciano il segno al primo ascolto. La band colpisce per tecnica e aggressività (“Tread With the Ghosts” possiede un drumming funambolico), senza mai tralasciare l’aspetto melodico.
Le parti di chitarra sono potenti e compatte, lavorano all’unisono con la sezione ritmica, mentre la voce è ben inserita nel mixing e contribuisce all’omogeneità stilistica del disco. Nella titletrack la solennità delle composizioni raggiunge il suo apice: l’atmosfera rarefatta e le chitarre articolate che tessono intrecci vorticosi, creano un brano molto suggestivo e coinvolgente. Non mancano aperture relativamente più melodiche, come in “Pyre of Vengeance”, dove la voce permane greve e gli inserti di tastiera non risultano mai troppo invadenti, e nella conclusiva “The Mourning Shores”, in cui vi sono alcuni versi in clean vocals.
In particolar modo, è proprio questo ultimo brano a certificare l’innegabile bravura della band e a mostrarci nuove ed interessanti sfaccettature del loro sound (che sia la prossima evoluzione sonora dei Voidfallen?). “The Rituals of Resilience” è un disco di una band dalla spiccata personalità, suonato e arrangiato egregiamente, dove il genere melodic death, nelle sue derivazioni più dark, viene impreziosito da spunti provenienti dal black metal sinfonico.
Il mio augurio è che i Voidfallen possano avere il risalto che meritano, siamo al cospetto di una band straordinaria.
