[ITA] Gli AXTY arrivano dal Brasile e, con “The Pain Made Me Who I Am“, pubblicato il 21 agosto 2026 per Napalm Records, provano a fare un passo importante fuori dai confini del loro Paese. Il trio, composto da Felipe Hervoso alla voce, Jonathas Peschiera alla chitarra e Gabriel Vacari alla batteria, porta sul disco un sound che non ha troppa voglia di stare fermo dentro un genere preciso.
L’apertura con “Pain Made” fa pensare, almeno inizialmente, che il disco possa prendere una direzione ben precisa: pesante, aggressiva, senza troppi compromessi. Poi arriva “Who I Am” e cambia subito le carte in tavola, soprattutto grazie a un ritornello decisamente più melodico. E qui arriva anche una piccola chicca: mettendo insieme i titoli delle prime due tracce si ottiene proprio il titolo dell’album, “The Pain Made Me Who I Am“.
È un disco che gioca continuamente tra pesantezza e melodia, passando dal metalcore al deathcore e inserendo qua e là anche elementi rap. Il risultato non è sempre quello che ci si aspetta, ed è probabilmente proprio questo uno degli aspetti più interessanti degli AXTY: quando sembra di aver capito dove vogliono andare, cambiano strada.
A tenere insieme il tutto ci pensa soprattutto la voce di Felipe Hervoso, capace di passare da parti pulite ed emotive a scream, growl e registri decisamente più estremi senza perdere quella componente melodica che torna spesso all’interno del disco. Ma sarebbe riduttivo concentrarsi soltanto sulla voce: la batteria di Gabriel Vacari picchia duro e le chitarre di Jonathas Peschiera costruiscono un muro sonoro che, per essere prodotto da un trio, sembra decisamente più grande.
Tra i brani che spiccano c’è “Who I Am”, proprio per il contrasto tra le sezioni deathcore più aggressive e il ritornello melodico, mentre “All I Love” porta il lato più brutale del gruppo, con chitarre particolarmente movimentate e una batteria che non sembra intenzionata a lasciare molto spazio per riprendere fiato.
“Nothing But Pain” aggiunge invece un’altra sfumatura al sound degli AXTY, spingendosi verso quella fusione di metalcore moderno e sonorità più futuristiche che caratterizza buona parte del disco. In chiusura troviamo “End This”, uno dei pezzi più interessanti dell’album, dove fanno capolino anche influenze alternative e nu-metal.
Quello che convince di “The Pain Made Me Who I Am” è soprattutto la voglia di mescolare influenze diverse senza rinunciare alla componente più pesante. Non è un album che punta tutto sulla violenza sonora e non è nemmeno un disco costruito soltanto attorno ai ritornelli melodici: gli AXTY cercano continuamente un punto d’incontro tra le due cose.
Il risultato è un lavoro moderno, aggressivo e sufficientemente vario da non risultare monotono, che conferma gli AXTY come una band da tenere d’occhio all’interno della nuova scena metalcore internazionale. Il passaggio a Napalm Records sembra quindi essere un passo naturale per un gruppo che ha ancora parecchio spazio davanti a sé.
[ENG] The AXTY come from Brazil and, with “The Pain Made Me Who I Am“, released on August 21, 2026 via Napalm Records, are trying to take an important step beyond the borders of their country. The trio, composed of Felipe Hervoso on vocals, Jonathas Peschiera on guitar and Gabriel Vacari on drums, brings to the album a sound that doesn’t seem too interested in staying within one specific genre.
The opening track, “Pain Made”, initially makes you think that the album might take a very precise direction: heavy, aggressive, without too many compromises. Then “Who I Am” arrives and immediately changes the cards on the table, especially thanks to a decidedly more melodic chorus. And here comes a little gem: putting together the titles of the first two tracks gives you the actual title of the album, “The Pain Made Me Who I Am“.
It is an album that constantly plays between heaviness and melody, moving from metalcore to deathcore and also inserting rap elements here and there. The result is not always what you expect, and this is probably one of the most interesting aspects of AXTY: when it seems like you have understood where they are going, they change direction.
Holding everything together is above all the voice of Felipe Hervoso, capable of moving from clean and emotional parts to screams, growls and decidedly more extreme registers without losing that melodic component that often returns throughout the album. But it would be reductive to focus only on the vocals: Gabriel Vacari‘s drums hit hard, while Jonathas Peschiera‘s guitars build a wall of sound that, considering it comes from a trio, sounds decidedly bigger.
Among the standout tracks is “Who I Am”, precisely because of the contrast between the more aggressive deathcore sections and the melodic chorus, while “All I Love” brings out the band’s more brutal side, with particularly energetic guitars and drums that don’t seem willing to leave much room to catch your breath.
“Nothing But Pain” adds another shade to AXTY’s sound, moving towards that fusion of modern metalcore and more futuristic sounds that characterizes much of the album. Closing the record is “End This”, one of the most interesting tracks on the album, where alternative and nu-metal influences also make an appearance.
What works about “The Pain Made Me Who I Am” is above all the desire to mix different influences without giving up the heavier component. It is not an album that relies entirely on sonic violence, nor is it a record built solely around melodic choruses: AXTY are constantly looking for a meeting point between the two.
The result is a modern, aggressive and sufficiently varied work that never becomes monotonous, confirming AXTY as a band to keep an eye on within the new international metalcore scene. The move to Napalm Records therefore seems like a natural step for a group that still has plenty of room ahead of them.
