Ci troviamo in compagnia dei mitici Wintersun, la band finlandese che ormai tutti conosciamo come fattrice di capolavori epici (ma l’epicità è pure la caratteristica delle loro release, eheh, solitamente molto distanti fra di loro). L’uscita del nuovo album “The Forest Seasons” è vicina e dunque ci sembra un’ottima occasione per chiedere un po’ di tutto, perché sappiamo che in Italia la band è veramente molto apprezzata.
Ciao ragazzi, sono Sabrina e vi do il benvenuto su Heavyworlds.com. Come va?
Veramente alla grande! Contentissimi di vedere come i nostri cari fan ci sostengano nella campagna corrente su Indiegogo!
Iniziamo a parlare del vostro nuovo album…”Time Tw..” oops, “The Forest Seasons”! Già sappiamo che trae ispirazione da Vivaldi, ma è composto da tracce originali. Raccontateci i motivi di questa scelta.
Sì, il nuovo album Tim…ooops, hehe, “The Forest Seasons” è un po’ ispirato a Vivaldi ed il tema sono le Quattro stagioni, per il resto non c’è niente a che vedere con assonanze musicali. L’ispirazione è nata dalle passeggiate in solitaria di Jari nella foresta. Qui si va dalla bellezza all’asperità del paesaggio, a seconda della stagione e questi mutamenti hanno fatto sì che un album del genere (da loro ispirato) vedesse la luce. Possiamo dire che attraverso le nostre quattro stagioni, troverete più dinamicità e situazioni epiche rispetto a Vivaldi ☺
Dunque lo stile rimarrà sull’Epic o ci sarà qualche altro cambiamento?
E’ un album Wintersun e suonerà Epic, quindi il patto continua. Questa volta (nota in inglese della band: “This time (<- yes haha)…”) il nostro nuovo album è più emozionante e appassionato rispetto al passato, pensiamo. Le canzoni si concentrano in maniera più profonda sull’atmosfera. Sono atmosfere maestose e puoi ascoltare e sentire dentro di te questa grandezza, mentre le canzoni si susseguono.
La campagna di crowdfunding servirà a gestire questa release. Per me è veramente divertente, perché già so che raggiungerete il goal in pochissimi giorni. Quali sono le vostre aspettative per il futuro? Pensi che sarà sempre facile raggiungere il goal nelle prossime campagne?
Pensiamo che questa sia la soluzione migliore per pubblicare l’album, direttamente con i nostri fan ed in maniera trasparente su cosa stiamo facendo e su dove andranno i fondi accumulati. La campagna sta andando benissimo. Anche se ci aspettavamo un buon responso, questi risultati ci strabiliano. I nostri cari fan sono i migliori ed è bellissimo vedere che tutta questa gente ci capisce ed apprezza la nostra onestà.
Il futuro è tutto da scrivere e dipende anche da come andrà questa campagna. Sicuramente abbiamo dei piani per i prossimi ma ciascun crowdfunding è unico, quindi il packaging corrente non sarà in futuro disponibile. Offriremo qualcosa di veramente speciale per i fan sicuramente, come stiamo facendo al momento. E’ la cosa migliore che possiamo fare, da parte nostra.
E’ evidente dalle vostre pagine Facebook che amate curare un buon rapporto con i vostri fan, aggiornandoli sempre e rispondendo a tutte le loro domande. Questa è veramente una cosa carina da vedere; come vi fa sentire?
Vogliamo avere il miglior rapporto con i nostri fan. Siamo sulla stessa barca ed anche sullo stesso piano come persone. Fare qualcosa di così grande insieme è il miglior modo per andare avanti in questo rapporto. Condividere le stesse passioni musicali e parlare attraverso i social media o durante i nostri concerti… siamo una grande famiglia ☺
Ed ecco che arriva la domanda che sta tormentando tutti i vostri fan: che fine ha fatto “Time II”? Qualche idea su quando avverrà la release?
Non sappiamo esattamente quando. Dipende anche dalla nostra campagna: meglio andrà, prima avremo le risorse necessarie per la pubblicazione di Time II.
So che quest’estate per voi sarà piena di attività live nei festival. Potremmo aspettarci anche un tour?
Stiamo esaminando le possibilità di un tour, ma ancora non c’è nulla di programmato. Musica nuova sarà presente nei prossimi live show, sicuramente!
Come sta andando la scena metal in Finlandia? Ancora bene? Perché qui dall’Italia noi immaginiamo il vostro paese come la terra promessa per questo genere di musica!
Piacerebbe anche a noi avere canzoni metal nelle classifiche. E la scena underground è anch’essa apprezzata?
La Finlandia ha una forte scena metal sicuramente. Pop music e underground music sono abbastanza apprezzate. Penso che il clima e la mentalità della gente abbiano molto a che fare con questi risultati, perché la creatività del metal è molto amata!
Che cosa fa ciascuno di voi nella sua vita di tutti i giorni?
Siamo musicisti full-time essenzialmente, anche se il progetto Wintersun non ci fornisce le risorse per la vita di tutti i giorni. Abbiamo un background di lavoro duro, come la gente comune e siamo quindi consapevoli di quante sfide ci siano per andare avanti.

-Hello guys, I’m Sabrina, welcome on Heavyworlds.com. How are you doing?
Absolutely great! Pleased to see how our dear fans are with us in our currently running crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo!
-Let’s start talking about your upcoming album… “time tw…” OOPS, “The Forest Seasons”! We already know that it’s gonna be inspired by Vivaldi, but with original tracks. Please, explain us the reason of this choice.
Yes our new album Tim… OOPS hehe The Forest Seasons is a tiny bit inspired by Vivaldi and that’s the theme four seasons, nothing to do with music. The inspiration came from the forest while Jari was wandering in the woods. There the beauty and harshness of different seasons inspired him to come up with something astonishing that is the “Forest Seasons”. I can say though that our “four seasons“ is way more dynamic and epic than Vivaldi’s ☺
-Is it going to follow the epic-metal style or do you want to change something?
Wintersun is and sounds epic, so the path is continuing. This time (<- yes haha) our new album is more emotional and passionate than before I think. The songs are focusing on the atmosphere deeper. They are majestic and you hear and feel that greatly when listening to the songs.
-Crowdfunding campaign, that’s how you will manage the release. This is very funny for me, because I’m sure you will reach your goal in a few days. What are your expectations for the future and do you think it will be as easy to reach your goal on the upcoming 2 campaigns?
We think this is the best possible way to release the album, directly with our fans by being transparent and honest what we are doing and where the funds are going. The campaign is going greatly. Although we believed in it, we didn’t expect this kind of a response. Our dear fans are the best, and great to see that so many people understand us and appreciate our honesty.
The future is still open depending how good this crowdfunding campaign will go. Of course we already have the plans for the next ones but all crowdfundings are unique, so The Forest Package won’t be available in the future crowdfunding campaigns. We will see how the next campaigns will go. We will offer something truly special for the fans for sure like we are doing at the moment. That is the best what we can do from our side ☺
-It’s clear from your facebook page you love having a good relationship with your fans, always updating them and replying to each question. This is very nice to see; how do you feel about it?
We want to have the best relationship with our fans. We all are in the same boat and are all equal people. Making something great like this together is the best possible thing to do – sharing the same music passion and talking via social media or at our concerts. We are a big family ☺
-And this is the question which is tormenting all your fans: what about Time II? Any idea about when it will be released?
We do not know exactly when. The better our crowdfunding campaign(s) will go the sooner we can have the required resources and release TIME II faster!
-I know you’re going to join many summer festivals this year. Shall we expect a tour too?
Touring possibilities are being looked into at the moment. We will surely tour but don’t know yet where and when. New music coming on the live shows of course as well!
-Is it the metal in Finland still great? Because here in Italy we imagine your country as a promised land for the music, eheh! We would like so much to have metal songs in the charts. Is the underground scene appreciated over there?
Finland has a strong metal scene indeed. It’s been pop music and underground as well for several years and this going strong. I think the climate and mentality of the people has a lot to do with the creating metal music in its best form!
-What does each one of you do in his normal life?
We are full time musicians basically, although Wintersun hasn’t been able to provide full time income for us. We are teaching instrument playing and also work on other projects as well. We do have the background of regular hard working people so we do know that sometimes it can be challenging to survive money wise at least..
